The rosette is a openwork huge round bay whose tracery is generally radial. It was used in the façade of gothic churches, gaining its great splendour in the architecture of this style. The rosettes increased in size and complexity of decoration, until reaching extraordinary degrees of stony filigree. Later, they were used in other locations of great decorative importance.
