SOLOMON’S KNOT

The fountain we are presenting must occupy a central place because everything that surrounds it will become a space with great spiritual content. It is the wide on the top what makesthis a unique piece that will evoke us to other places and times. It can also be observed that no other bust with severe and stark silhouettes could take this place.

When two links are perpendicularly intertwined, a geometrical figure is represented: Salomon’s knot. Here, we can see it in a complex series creating a huge geometrical composition. It was massively represented in the roman mosaics with an apparent decorative intention, and , in the medieval period (inheritor of pagan traditions) carved in stone or painted. It had to be then when it was given the name of a canonical figure of the church, liberating partly pagan superstitions about its use and origin. This symbol has been associated to the King Solomon by means of a legend in which the archangel Miguel handed a ring with a powerful symbol to the king (endless knot, the star of David, stamp…) that conferred a power on him over the devils. Also, it has been linked to a particular symbol of the Italian quarry workers (official employees in the Lombard kingdom, VII-VIII centuries) known as the “Comacini Masters”, who gave it a mystical meaning, time and space were interwoven, eternal movement.

There are almost no limits on the variety of fountain designs.
